Digital Oral X-Rays
Digital radiography is a form of x-ray imaging, where digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. Advantages include time efficiency through bypassing chemical processing and the ability to digitally transfer and enhance images. Also less radiation can be used to produce an image of similar contrast to conventional radiography.
Fluoride Treatment FAQs
Is it important?
Absolutely! Fluoride has played a major role in the decline and severity of dental caries (i.e., tooth decay) in the United States. Our treatments contain more fluoride than over-the-counter mouthwashes, stay on the teeth longer, and are effective for both children and adults.
Is it safe?
When used appropriately, fluoride is both safe and effective in preventing and controlling tooth decay. It should never be swallowed.
How is it applied?
Fluoride is applied as a gel, foam or varnish that comes in many flavors. It can be applied by using a tray that looks like a mouth guard for one to four minutes or painted directly on the teeth. There are two different type of professionally applied fluoride: acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF), and neutral sodium fluoride, depending on whether you have dry mouth (xerostomia) or tooth-colored fillings, crowns, or bridges.
Fluoride supplements may be prescribed to children in small quantities. The daily dosage ranges from 0.25 to 1 milligram, based on the child’s age and the amount of fluoride in the water he or she drinks.
